What is happening to Altin Belba, the boy who meets death?
Altin Belba

A few days ago, first on Thursday of the week we left behind, at 21:00, on my show on "DREJT", on the radio and television screen "Ora News", and then one day after, exactly on Friday, on on April 26, through a post on my Facebook profile, I told you about the thirty-two-year-old from Përrenjasi, Altin Belba, and his great trouble; the disease with which he was born and with which he has lived for 32 years (suffering from a thrombosis of the portal vein (hepatic portal vein), and from which he is on the verge of death in many cases, as he suffers severe hemorrhages and ends up in the hospital half dead

I also told you about the fact that at the "Mother Teresa" University Hospital Center, as the most specialized institution in the country, the intervention in this vein is impossible for a multitude of factors, (most of them for objective reasons) and that in the conditions of a countries like Albania are understandable.

Without wanting to dwell on this side of the matter, since the most important thing right now is to save Altini's life, I want to underline the fact that the human solidarity offered by hundreds and hundreds of citizens in Albania and from many countries of the world where they live, who wrote and called me immediately from that moment and expressed their willingness to contribute to financially enable the costs of the surgical intervention.

I can't find words to express my gratitude and respect for this divine measure of Albanian solidarity and kindness, despite the disgusting indifference of many government officials, some of whom I have addressed personally, receiving their silence as an answer.

Relatively speaking, I do not expect that some honest advisers will have such sensitivity as to present this vital problem for the life of a completely unknown citizen and without any connection to power or political people to the President of the Republic or the Prime Minister of the country, because maybe for them, the fight for life in the face of the death of a citizen of their country is not in the order of priorities, (the President of the state who, by chance, is also a doctor and even profiled precisely for the diseases of that part of the human body where the portal vein is located, he has been busy with a tomato and cucumber fair in Lushnja and there is no way his attention will reach aunts like Altini's aunt!), but I thought and believed that Mrs. Minister of Health or some functionary of that ministry would take it at least bother to ask how Altin Belba's problem is and try to see what opportunities the Albanian state has to save his life, as it is ultimately its duty.

I met this guy by chance and by chance I learned about the big trouble he has.

Altini didn't ask me for anything and if I hadn't asked him, he wouldn't even have told me how close he is to death!

Because he does not know how to pray or knock on the doors of power or the gates of the parties to ask for help.

Altin Belba did not choose the disease. The disease has chosen him, and in front of it, he has found himself alone and helpless, waiting for fate and under the weight of the anxiety of the unknown known.

Many citizens have suggested that I start a GoFundMe, a practice that I have not been given the opportunity to engage in before. (I learned that it's an American crowdfunding platform that allows people to raise money to cover expenses, including what Altini needs for surgery costs).

This was not my goal in fact, even though in the face of the impossibility of other state and institutional paths, it remained the only solution.

I wanted to alert the state about the life of a citizen who is in danger, convinced that the state has a duty to save Altin Belba's life.

By voicing the great plight of Altini, I did not want to reveal the ugliness of the criminal inaction of the institutions of the system, but I only wanted to give them a signal to do their job and help them get to where they are. duty to be, to man and in defense of his life.

But, even though for three whole days no one from the state reacted, even though many of the ministers, deputies and others like them were silent and did not answer me, not everyone is the same.

Miraculously, only one lady answered, Dr. Alma Cani. The only one and how good that this case singled out Dr. Alma from the others.

She has only been appointed director of the "Mother Teresa" University Hospital Center for a few days.

Disappointed and killed by the silence of others, I wrote to Dr. Alma. He answered me immediately. He contacted me and was interested in Altin Belba's case. After listening to me very kindly, he asked me for his phone number and told me that he will be contacted and that the problem will be dealt with very responsibly.

Very happy that I succeeded and that I found above all a man who listened to me and not only listened to me, but also took responsibility to save Altini's life (why do people lose so much among the people of power?!), I called Altin to tell him that we found a light of hope at the end of the tunnel where he is.

However, Altini did not let me give him the news of hope. Without letting me open my mouth, he happily told me:

- He just took me on the phone and I spoke with the director of QSUT, Dr. Alma. He told me that on Monday (so today) my staff will call you and you will come to QSUT.

I was amazed by everything he told me. With great excitement and endless gratitude I communicated with the director.

I didn't know how to thank him. I had no words. Or I had many words, but they seemed few, too few to show her the gratitude she deserves.

I felt that on the other end of the phone was the kindness and nobility of a lady where the doctor, the sense of dedicated service and the responsibility of fulfilling the state duty elevate her. In Altini's case, Dr. Alma saved the honor of the state.

Now, at the very moment that I am writing this and telling you about the boy who is facing death, Altini is in the "Mother Teresa" University Hospital Center in Tirana. It is at Mrs. Alma Cani's.

It's up to her…
