The monitoring of sea waters on the country's beaches has highlighted the deterioration of the condition in most of them.

The National Environment Agency, in the annual report published a few days ago, listed more beaches that have deteriorated in water quality than beaches that have improved. From South to North, the number of beaches with excellent water quality has decreased.

According to the data, the number of stations of category A – Very good quality, for the monitored beaches for the year 2023 is lower compared to the years 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022.

"The number of stations of category B - Good quality - for the year 2023 is higher compared to the years 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022.

The number of stations of category C – Sufficient quality for the year 2023 is higher compared to the years 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022.

The number of stations of category D - Bad quality for the year 2023 is higher compared to the years 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022", the report states.

The same report underlines that the main factor of pollution of coastal bathing waters remains the discharge of untreated urban waters into receiving coastal waters directly and indirectly, which cause pollution of these waters.

But what are the beaches and the findings of the KMA report on them from North to South?

Velipojë

In Velipoja beach for the year 2023, the number of stations belonging to Category A - Excellent water quality is lower than in previous years.

The number of stations of category B- Good water quality and category C- Sufficient quality for 2023 is higher than previous years. So we have a tendency to decrease the quality of water, passing from excellent quality to good quality.

Shengjini and Tale

For the year 2023, it turns out that we have no stations that belong to Category A - Excellent water quality, compared to previous years. The number of stations of category D - Bad water quality for the year 2023 is high.

For Tale Beach in 2023, the number of stations of Category B - good quality and sufficient quality has increased. We have no A-category stations - excellent quality. It is estimated that the water quality has decreased compared to previous years, moving from excellent quality to sufficient quality.

The beaches of Durres and Lalez Bay

The beaches of Durrës for the year 2023, according to the bacteriological results, are assessed as: category B Good quality for 7 monitoring points, category C- Sufficient quality for 3 monitoring points, and category D- Bad quality for 11 monitoring points.

The number of stations of category B – Good water quality for the year 2023 is higher compared to 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and lower than the years 2021, 2022.

The number of stations of category C – Sufficient water quality, for the year 2023 is lower than in 2016, 2017, 2019, and is higher compared to 2018, 2020, 2021, 2022. The number of stations of category D- Bad quality/ Immediate measures, for 2023 is higher compared to previous years.

For Lalzi beach in the period 2020-2022, all stations belong to Category A - Excellent water quality, without microbial loads. However, for 2023, we have a decrease in the number of stations of category A- Excellent quality and an increase of stations of category B- Good quality.

Kavaja Beach (Golem)

The number of stations of category D- Bad quality/Immediate measures, for the year 2023 is higher compared to previous years. There is a tendency to decrease the water quality, passing from excellent and good quality (2022) to good and bad quality (2023).

Qerret Beach

A deterioration of water quality is seen compared to previous years, going from excellent quality to bad quality.

Spille beach

During the year 2023, a decrease in quality is observed. The waters are of category D - Poor quality / Immediate measures compared to 2022, where the beaches were of category A - Excellent water quality.

The beaches of Seman and Divjaka

For the year 2023, there is a decrease in category A-excellent water quality, compared to the three years 2020, 2021, 2022, where all analyzed monitoring points are evaluated as Category A, excellent water quality.

Divjaka's beaches during 2023 turn out to have a decrease in water quality compared to previous years, which belonged to category A Excellent quality in all monitoring stations.

The beaches of Zvrnec, Vlora and Orikum

In Zvërnec, we have a significant improvement in quality during the years 2022-2023, where all stations are of category A - Excellent water quality compared to 2021.

For 2023, we have a decreasing trend of stations belonging to category A – Excellent quality. The number of stations of category C - Sufficient water quality and category D - Poor water quality has an increasing trend compared to 2022. This indicates a deterioration of water quality.

The beaches of Palasa, Drimadhe, Dhërmi, Jali, Livadhe

Palas Beach for the period 2020-2023 has excellent water quality. All stations belong to the category AExcellent water quality.

For the beach of Dhërmi for the year 2023, the number of stations belonging to the category A- Excellent water quality is lower than in previous years. The number of stations of category B- Good quality, (33.3%) is higher than in previous years.

The beaches of Jal, during the period 2020 - 2023, belong to category A Excellent water quality.

The beaches of Livadhe during the 2021-2023 monitoring period belong to Category A - Excellent quality. The waters are free of microbial loads.

Qeparoi beach

For the year 2023, we have no stations that belong to category A Excellent water quality. This shows a decreasing trend in water quality, passing from excellent quality (2020-2022) to good quality (2023).

Borshi Beach

For the beach of Borshi for the year 2022 and 2023, the water quality belongs to the category A-Excellent quality 100%, without microbial loads compared to the year 2021, where 33% of the stations belonged to good quality.

Lukova beach

For the period 2020-2023, it is estimated that Lukova Beach belongs to category A - Excellent water quality.

Saranda beach

For 2023, we have an increase in stations belonging to category A - Excellent quality compared to 2022. The number of stations of category D - Poor quality/Immediate measures, for 2023 are lower compared to 2022.

The number of stations of category B- Good water quality are higher compared to the period 2016-2020 and lower compared to the years 2021 and 2022. We have a tendency to decrease water quality for the last three years (2021- 2023) compared to previous years

Ksamil Beach

For the year 2023, the waters of category A – Excellent quality are decreasing compared to the period 2020 – 2022. We have no stations of category D – Bad quality/Immediate measures, for the year 2023. This shows an improvement of the situation compared to 2022 where 33% of the stations belonged to this category./ Monitor magazine
