Ban on meat trading in Shkodra/ Farmers: We are heading towards bankruptcy

The ban on meat trading in Shkodra due to the plague disease has brought a reaction from farmers. Farmer Edmir Repaj from the village of Kodër-Boks in the Postribë unit says they have been unfairly penalized for the livestock disease.

He has about 300 heads of cattle and is asking for more subsidies from the state, as they are heading for bankruptcy. According to farmer Repaj, this is not the first disease to affect cattle and there should be no panic among citizens.

"I am penalized. Many diseases have come to our village. They are diseases that are transmitted. The people should not panic. The farmer is penalized. I call on the people to buy meat from farmers," says Pepaj.

Due to the ban on trading, farmer Repaj says that the economic damage is great, while his livestock is free of disease.

"Farmers are being penalized. I didn't sell anything for Eid. They have caused me great economic damage. My livestock is not sick. I am regular, why should I be penalized," Repaj says.

A few days ago, a case of plague of small ruminants was confirmed in the village of Domen in the Postribë unit, where measures were subsequently taken to block the movement of animals in markets and slaughterhouses in the areas of Shkodra and Malesia e Madhe. A measure which is being opposed by farmers on the grounds that they are heading towards bankruptcy./CNA
