How to cope with viruses

In direct meetings or phone calls full of friends, relatives and patients tell me that they have had a cold or severe, like never before, but should we be afraid.

Winter often has an impact on our health, personally I have rarely gone through winter without worries.

Because of the cold weather we spend more time indoors. We are exposed to each other in closed environments.

The air we breathe is heated by air conditioners, heaters, stoves which dry it.

Our exposure to dust and mold particles and other indoor pollutants increases.

The moment we step outside the air is cold and damp! Rarely individuals manage not to be affected by these drastic changes!

Our life flows at a fast pace, we do not have time to tolerate an illness that limits our work, activity.

We think that an outside force has attacked us. We need a cure to get him out!!

We often call a doctor, tell him our complaints and he gives us an antibiotic.

It is the moment we all believe we are on the road to recovery. If the first antibiotic fails, there is always a second or a combination of antibiotics!

A doctor without the proper knowledge will often tell you that the previous antibiotic did not work.

Fact: in more than half of the cases of respiratory system infections, an antibiotic is useless.

Antibiotics are designed to fight bacteria and do not help when the cause of the infection is a virus.

It is difficult to determine whether any set of symptoms represents a viral infection or a bacterial infection. (Especially over the phone).

I have often emphasized that it is important to screen a patient before starting an antibiotic.

The excessive use of antibiotics has increased resistance to antibiotics, so at a moment when we need them, they will not work.

Using antibiotics when they are not necessary is dangerous.

Unfortunately, today many patients are looking for antibiotics at the pharmacy themselves! This fact is horrifying!!

There are reasonable strategies to manage the symptoms of early respiratory tract infections without using unnecessary doses of antibiotics.

Strategies that reduce exposure to irritants include:

Avoiding situations where exposure to other infected persons is possible. Since childhood, I remember that when someone came to our house with cough and fever, we also got sick a few days later.

Ventilation of home and work environments can be a very effective preventive strategy. An environment with cold and clean air is healthier than an environment with warm but charged air, with factors that bring disease.

Never take antibiotics from a pharmacist without a doctor's appointment. Ask the doctor for explanations about the reasons why he is giving you antibiotics!

Your body should be treated as a temple, don't fall prey to the pharmaceutical industry, which can be against your health in some cases.
