This is the #1 secret to better sleep

Do you not sleep well at night or did you not fall asleep? Do you wake up in the middle of the night restless? If so, then with a cursory internet search you've probably come across advice such as avoiding alcohol, turning off electronics at least an hour before bed, or drinking chamomile tea. Newer research recommends doing another activity much earlier in the day, with the goal of sleeping better later.

According to researchers from the University of South Australia, the quality of a night's sleep is closely related to how a person's day is structured, and especially when it involves exercise.

In their study, published in Sleep Health, they included and monitored the daily routines and sleep habits of 1,360 adults and 1,168 children, making adjustments to the participants' activities to observe how these affected their sleep. They concluded that participants with higher levels of moderate and vigorous physical activity experienced less difficulty falling asleep, improved sleep quality, and less fatigue.

Lead researcher Dr Lisa Matricciani said the findings highlight the importance of daily activities in sleep quality. She even encourages everyone to go a step further than just changing their sleep routine if they really want to improve their quality.

"Although we now know a lot about sleep and how to get a good night's sleep, many people struggle to get enough rest. When they think about how to improve their sleep quality, they usually focus on adjustments right before bed, for example, avoiding screens or too much food and alcohol. Our research focuses on the whole day and especially on different activities", says Dr. The Matrixian.

Next, he explains that "we found that daily activities are related to different aspects of our sleep, from the quality, efficiency and overall amount of sleep".

In conclusion, Dr. Matricciani emphasizes that "being more active during the day can be a relatively achievable goal for most of us"./ CNA
