Acne, why treatment fails?

Acne, why treatment fails?

Acne is a complex inflammatory and infectious skin condition, influenced by three main factors:

- excessive production of fat,

- the accumulation of dead cells in the pores of the skin

- excessive growth of bacteria on the skin.

When these three factors come together, a change in the skin's microenvironment occurs, causing a chronic inflammatory reaction that results in acne and other skin problems.

The factors that influence the development of acne are external (environmental) and internal.

Internal factors are:

- age,

- hormone levels,

- pregnancy,

- overweight,

- lack of exercise,

- family history of acne.

External factors that affect the appearance of acne are:

- Certain foods

- Certain medicines

- Stress

- Air pollution

- High humidity

- Physical stress on the skin, such as squeezing pimples, touching with fingers, nails, etc.

Another important factor that can cause and worsen your acne is your gut microflora.

The microflora-acne connection

The role of gut microflora in acne pathology has been a topic of active research.

Healthy gut microflora and healthy skin are in direct proportion, and have an impact on various aspects of acne development and healing.

Patients affected by acne are usually treated with creams and gels with antibiotics, antifungals, cortisones etc. which work by blocking the pores and can provide temporary relief of typical acne symptoms.

Oral antibiotics, such as doxycycline, tetracycline, minocycline or erythromycin are also prescribed, in order to kill the bacteria that cause inflammation around and within the blocked pores as well as major damage to the liver, kidney and brain.

In some cases, oral contraceptives are also prescribed as a means of trying to correct hormonal imbalances, but these drugs also bring significant side effects, such as nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps or bloating, diarrhea, hair growth in unusual places, changes in menstrual flow, etc.

My advice: Do not get treatments from pseudo-estheticians, beauticians, pharmacists, etc.

Check with a dermatologist, and don't forget; keep your fingers off your face!
