In the bay of Lake Shkodra, just a few kilometers from the city, lies Zogaj, a picturesque village that is increasingly becoming a sought-after tourist destination. With characteristic houses on the water's edge, untouched nature and a tranquility that takes you away from the noise of everyday life, Zogaj has become the ideal choice for local and foreign vacationers.

The magnificent landscape, where the tranquility of the lake and the greenery of the Taraboshi mountain come together, offers not only relaxation, but also opportunities for exploration, hiking, swimming and boat trips. The beauty of nature and traditional hospitality have made Zogaj visited by tourists from all over the world this summer.

“We are from Belgium, it is the first time we visit Albania and it is our first time here, of course, and we are really enjoying it. She wanted to see the lake and here there is a very nice view. As you can see, it is very nice and that is the reason. I think it is the nature and it is very quiet here, it is so beautiful and peaceful. We have seen many birds, fish, other species and yes, it was something we were looking for for our vacation. We will stay here for a few days, about 5 days, and in Albania 2 weeks in total. Maybe we will keep it a secret only for ourselves, but I think when we come back we will talk about this place, because it is really beautiful and we really enjoyed it here”

"I'm from Canada, Montreal, and yes, we'll be staying in this place for two days. The lake, the temperature of the lake, the mountain and the people, it's very beautiful, it's very special, but it's very nice. Swimming, the brilliant sunset was very nice yesterday."

Next season, road infrastructure will be fully invested in the Shiroka-Zogaj segment, so it is expected to directly impact the growth of tourism, making the area more accessible and attractive for day and family tourism.

There are no large hotels in Zogaj yet, but tourism has developed through guesthouses and rooms offered by the residents themselves, preserving authenticity and direct contact with Albanian rural life.

With great potential for sustainable tourism development, Zogaj remains an area that must be discovered and preserved, a natural and cultural treasure that gives Shkodra a new dimension on the tourist map of Albania./ CNA
