In the beautiful village of “Andon Poçi” in Gjirokastra, the “Vlach Song” festival was held with special solemnity and emotions, in honor of the International Vlach Day. This cultural activity, which has become a tradition, brought together members of the Vlach community from Albania.

Participants from Kavaja, Tirana, Korça, Dibra, Elbasan and beyond arrived in the South with their traditional clothing, inherited songs and stories of grandparents who once did not speak Albanian – to preserve and honor their roots.

One participant, Leonora Mane from Kavaja, exhibited her grandmother's costume.

Emotionally, she confessed: " My grandmother did not speak Albanian, not for exclusion, but to preserve our identity. Today, what hurts me most is the language, it is a Latin-based language, threatened by assimilation, and very difficult to write. But we must not let it be lost . "

Thoma Puriqi, one of the organizers, expressed his satisfaction that such a significant event was taking place precisely at "Andon Poçi".

" Today we symbolically open a day that was first established 120 years ago, the International Vlach Day, and we are happy to be organizing it. The visitors from all the districts where Vlachs live have brought their traditional groups, with songs that are almost a thousand years old, clothing and culture that speak of our antiquity ," he said.

The festival became an open stage for the Vlach cultural and linguistic heritage, conveying messages of unity, pride and identity. Music, dance and emotions permeated the village, while the organizers emphasized the necessity of preserving this living heritage that defies oblivion and time./ CNA
