The head of the Agrarian Environmentalist Party, Agron Duka, says that the opposition must come up with a common candidate for the 2023 local elections.

According to Duka, if a common candidate is not chosen, there is a risk of repeating the same situation as in the partial elections on March 6, where the vote will be divided between the opposition candidates.

“Mendimi është që nëse do dalin kandidatë nga primaret e Berishës, vetëm dhe jo me konsensusin gjithë opozitës, mund të rrezikojmë në përsëritje të situatës më 6 mars. Në rast të tillë do ndahet vota. Të bën të pamundur të fitosh përballë një kandidaturë të fortë të PS. Vetëm nëse bëhen primare të hapura, nëse zgjidhet një kandidaturë e vetme nga e gjithë opozita, përfshirë këtu edhe partitë e vogla, vetëm atëherë mund të kemi shpresa që të fitojmë zgjedhjet vendore”, tha Duka.

Duka komentoi edhe deklaratën e kreut të Partisë së Lirisë, Ilir Meta që opozita duhet të dalë me një kandidat të përbashkët.

Ai i drejtoi edhe një pyetje Metës, nëse nënkupton daljen me një kandidat të përbashkët vetëm me Sali Berishën apo edhe me pjesën tjetër të opozitës.

"We have had talks only within small allies, with breakaway PD MPs, but not with Berisha or Alibeaj. I heard a statement from Meta that we should come up with a joint candidacy. This is positive. Does it mean a joint candidacy between the Freedom Party and Berisha, or does it mean a joint candidacy that includes the entire opposition and people who are outside politics, but want the opposition to win. If it is for the second, it would be positive, if it is for the first, it would be the same scheme", said Duka./ CNA.al
