The Chairperson of the Media Commission, Ina Zhupa, has urgently requested that the RTSH Steering Council be summoned to the commission regarding the illegal procedures being conducted for the competition for Director General.

Zhupa has stated that it is unacceptable and illegal for Council members to invent extralegal procedures.

According to the DP MP, the Steering Council must be held accountable, as RTSH is not a private property but is paid for with Albanian taxpayers' money.  

"It is unacceptable and illegal for members of the Steering Council to invent extralegal procedures to create votes on criteria. According to the law, criteria are not voted on."

Out of 10 candidates, 5 candidates met the criteria and passed the stage, and 5 others did not meet the criteria.

The 5 candidates who were selected are not voted on the criteria, but rather on whether or not they will be elected directors.

So the 5 candidates are candidates for director, they cannot be voted on again to disqualify them and because they meet the criteria these are illegal inventions. This commission is responsible for the Steering Council because we are the ones who elect them and we are the ones who dismiss them, monitor them and give public money to Albanians.

RTSH is not the private property of the Council, it is the public property of Albanians who pay 23 million euros per year.

We must rise to the occasion as a committee. With urgency, due to the issue, we must call the entire Council to an accountability session because they have a duty to account for their abuse of office.

A letter should be sent to the council to stop the proceedings and make a decision on the competition being considered illegal.

"I suggest that in cooperation with the Speaker of the Assembly, we use it to take a moment to break away and hold a committee meeting," said Zhupa./ CNA
