The Head of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, delivered his speech at one of today's discussion panels at the Diaspora Summit.

During his speech, Balla praised the achievements of Albanians abroad, while adding that the message of the Diaspora Summits is that Albanians must come together.

Balla also mentioned the inclusion of the diaspora in the recent parliamentary elections, emphasizing that more representatives of the diaspora are needed in the Albanian Parliament.

"In the American elections, only in Michigan are three Albanians running for the American Congress. This is a great achievement, hoping that we will have an Albanian congressman and why not later a senator. Ervin Ramaliu is an example of how an Albanian part of the local government is a point of reference for all Albanians who have a problem in that area.

Other countries that I do not want to mention have had the greatest advocate of national issues. Shuaip, elected to the Serbian parliament, was elected with great difficulty, because we Albanians do not know that when it comes to national issues we should come together. The time has come to think about the countries where we compete. The message of these diaspora summits is to come together.

The last elections were a victory for our democracy. Those who are the engine of our economy could not participate in the elections. More than 300 thousand Albanians in the diaspora showed interest and a full 202 thousand of them sent their votes by envelope. In 2029, when Albanians will have to vote again for parliament, we have more time to prepare. Political parties must give more space to the representation of the diaspora. More representatives of the diaspora are needed in the Albanian Parliament”, said Balla. /CNA
