"Massive depopulation, existential blow"/ Berisha: We need a platform

DP leader Sali Berisha, in a statement to the media, stated that the massive depopulation of Albania constitutes the most severe existential blow that the Albanian nation has suffered in its history.

Berisha said that a platform is needed so that the nation does not go towards extinction.

"The massive depopulation of Albania constitutes the most severe existential blow that the Albanian nation has received in its entire long history.

Never before have the basic population indicators of this country fallen within 10 years in a century.

Never before has such a demographic catastrophe been recorded as in the 10 years of Eid Rama's government from 2014-2024.

The birth rate in Albania today is equal to the birth rate it had when Albanians numbered 700,000, 100 years ago.

I have dwelled many times on this planned act that constitutes a true genocide against Albanians in the sense of creating the conditions for their departure from their country.

The UN Convention, Article 3 thereof, declares this circumstance as a circumstance of silent, peaceful genocide that can be committed against a people.

This genocide surpasses in its magnitude any demographic catastrophe that Albanians have experienced from the Middle Ages to the present day, whether from invasions, plague epidemics, or other severe epidemics.

Today, it is an absolute emergency to establish a platform that can mark the turning point in the demographic indicators of the Albanian people, so that this people does not head towards inevitable extinction with these indicators that they have today.

From 2018 to today, deaths in Albania are clearly higher than births.

"If we add to this the massive departures from the country, the emptying of Albania is guaranteed," Berisha said./ CNA
