Endri Shabani, co-leader of the "Albania Becomes" Initiative coalition, spoke today about the conflict with Adriatik Lapaj.

In an interview with A2CNN, Shabani revealed details from the pre-election agreement, according to which, if the coalition were to receive a mandate, it would not go to Lapaj.

"There is a tension related to the promise of representation in Parliament. The electoral system forced us to come up with a scheme where the closed list would resign (46 candidates) and everyone else was on the open list. Before all this happened, there was a discussion about who would lead the coalition and we decided that the youngest among us would lead it, which was Adriatik Lapaj, who, as chairman, would be even more promoted. Consequently, he would have an advantage over the others. The concern was that this advantage could be unfair. For this reason, the guarantee was that if we only get 1 mandate, Adriatik would not be there. There was a competition among everyone else and there was a commitment from the coalition leader, who said that "you are not entering the race to make me an MP because I am not here for my personal career". This guarantee was also stated publicly later. What happened? All 46 candidates, when the date of May 11 came, signed their resignations.
