"Babalja" returns/ Salianji and Olldashi appear before the court

The "Babale" case will return on Monday to the Court of Appeal of Tirana. Democratic Party deputy Ervin Salianji and journalist Jetmir Olldashi will appear before the judicial body.

Deputy Salianji was found guilty of the criminal offense of false reporting in relation to the "Babale" case. The journalist Olldashi was sentenced to 6 months in prison converted to 100 hours of community service and Albert Veliu to 3 years and 6 months.

In relation to this issue, the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party has come to the defense of Salinaji. Through a message sent to the democratic deputies, Enkelejd Alibeaj asked his colleagues to participate in the courtroom in solidarity with Salinaji.

Alibeaj describes the trial as a pure political orchestration and revenge of the majority against Salinaji because of his strong positions against the government.

The 'Babale' issue was one of the hottest topics of political debate in the years 2017-2019 during the time when Fatmir Xhafaj was the Minister of the Interior.

At that time, Xhafaj was accused by Salianji and the Democratic Party of favoring his brother Agron Xhafaj, sentenced in Italy to 7 years and 4 months in prison.

After the wiretapping came out, Agron Xhafaj surrendered to the Italian authorities, serving his sentence and has now returned to Albania free./euronews
