General Prosecutor's Office Report/ 93% of those investigated committed

A report submitted to the Assembly by the General Prosecutor's Office contains new data regarding this institution for 2024. According to the report, 93.05% of persons involved in criminal offenses during the past year are mainly in cases of banal theft of low-value items.

With authorization granted by the court, the Prosecution has wiretapped over 2,000 people and 354 individuals have been arrested. According to the General Prosecutor's Office, the criminal offenses for which these individuals were wiretapped are related to the following criminal offenses: money laundering, corruption related to duty, crimes against the person and drug trafficking.

In 2024, an increase in criminal proceedings registered for the criminal offense of money laundering was also noted. Regarding electoral criminal offenses, 8 criminal proceedings were sent for trial last year, of which 11 persons were taken as defendants and 14 persons were convicted.

One of the newest types of crime, cybercrime, has seen an increase. A greater number of criminal proceedings have been filed in the courts, with 59 people registered as defendants.

Regarding the number of proceedings based on districts, Tirana holds the highest number of criminal proceedings, with 35.4% of cases, while Durrës with 10.3%, Fier with 8.05% and Shkodra with 7.3%. Berat, Kukës and Dibra register lower numbers according to the report data. /CNA
