EC President: Negotiations with Albania are going well, aim to close the process

The President of the Council of Europe, Antonio Costa, shared today several positions on countries aspiring to EU membership, including Albania.

In his speech during the press conference after the EU-Moldova summit, Costa said that the enlargement process should be completed as soon as possible.

According to the EC head, negotiations with Albania are going well, with the country aiming to complete this phase by the end of 2027.

"We need to get the enlargement process underway as quickly as possible. We are moving very quickly, for example, with Montenegro. We could probably conclude negotiations with this country by the end of this year. We are doing well with Albania. Albania wants to conclude negotiations by the end of 2027. Of course, the European Council will take the right decisions. Both candidate and member states need to understand the sense of urgency. This means working faster and harder to achieve results, to meet all the criteria and to move forward as quickly as possible," Costa said. /CNA
