"The DP should get to work"/ Alimehmeti: In the race for Tirana Mayor,

Member of the National Council of the Democratic Party, Ilir Alimehmeti, commented this Saturday regarding the situation of the opposition and the DP in the race for the Municipality of Tirana.

In an interview on 'Syri Tv', Alimehmeti stated that time is very short, and as a result, the DP must focus on the work ahead of it through a proactive reorganizing approach.

Alimehmeti added that the most important goal for the DP is to present itself to citizens in an organized manner and with the objective of winning the elections.

"I think we should have been a little more prepared, because Veliaj was arrested on February 10 and we had some time to discuss this issue. At this moment we are talking, it is only about the election of the mayor and not the municipal council, and it is about a period of 1 year or something more.

Everything, budgets, platforms, strategies have been completed and it does not give you the opportunity to create a real development plan, except to legitimize the work of the executive. So, the possibilities are relatively small to work for 1 year, otherwise the law would not have established a 4-year structure.

In this regard, the conditions here are different from the situation in 2022-2023, when you mentioned my name. In these kinds of conditions, the DP needs a proactive reorganizing approach, and to understand that the big and strong race that we need to stand strong in is 2027.

There are 61 municipalities and all municipal councils are in the race and we must approach the public and the race in an organized and clear way directed towards victory. I am in favor of a program for the people that is better, cheaper and faster, and with a party that is clear and reorganized and reunited, as they say," said Alimehmeti. /CNA
