The spokeswoman of the opposition campaign, Silvi Bardhi, has denounced the misuse of money by the Municipality of Tirana.

Bardhi, through an official press statement, has stated that Erion Veliaj has announced a tender of 1.3 million euros, while according to her, citizens pay 9 million euros from their taxes per year for 1,075 employees for cleaning the city.

She affirmed that 1.3 million euros will be given to a private company for the maintenance of the "Skënderbej" square, of 6 thousand square meters of tiles and concrete.

Belind Këlliçi has presented a project that provides a solution to one of the most acute problems of Tirana, which is circulation and traffic, with an underpass in Skënderbej Square. This project will cost 4.5 million euros.

The underpass proposed by Belind Kelliçi solves a daily concern for all of us, saves us time and fuel.

Some ask, where will Belindi find the money?

The money is there, but it is wasted, as the citizens of Tirana pay with their taxes, several times the Municipality of Tirana for a single service.

And the case is fresh.

Erjon Veliaj has announced a tender of 1.3 million euros for the cleaning of "Skënderbej Square" while we, the citizens of Tirana pay 9 million dollars a year with our taxes and 1 thousand 75 employees, for the cleaning of the city.

But these employees and this fund received from our taxes are not enough for Erjon Veliaj.

He announced a tender that could very well be carried out by current employees of the Municipality.

1.3 million euros will be given to a private company for the maintenance of a square of 6,000 square meters of tiles and concrete.

Currently, Tirana Municipality administers two directorates for maintenance, the General Directorate of Roads and Lighting and the General Directorate of Green Cleaning.

Along with them are 6 pastrami companies of the city which receive millions of euros from our taxes.

Cleaning the city is very important, but today it is seen as an opportunity for profit and favor sharing.

So the question arises.

Why are Europe's poorest taxpayers being asked to pay for the cleanup again?

The time has come for these non-transparent methods and the abuse of Tirana's citizens' money to stop.

On May 14, it's time for change, it's time to bring to the fore a model that takes care of citizens' taxes and transforms them into services and goods for Tirana and its residents," she said./ CNA.al
