"The opposition suffers from the Peçi Kondra syndrome"/ Spaho:

Former Deputy Chairman and former DP MP Edmond Spaho has commented on the opposition's reaction to Albania's 302 million euro loan agreement with the US for defense according to NATO standards.

Spaho emphasizes that the opposition suffers from Peci Kondra syndrome and hatred does not let it understand that sometimes it should vote without debate on military agreements with the US.

Spaho underlines that this agreement is secret and not even NATO member countries know what weapons one country or another imports from the US.

He states that the agreement is an unwritten condition for holding the NATO summit in Tirana next year, which, according to him, is more valuable to Albania than any desire by the opposition to put obstacles in the way in the hope of coming to power.

Spaho emphasizes that the opposition's behavior in this case is like a headless chicken, as none of the parties that signed the agreement want an agreement in violation of the country's Constitution and a confrontation in the Constitutional Court, as happened with agreements when the opposition was in power.

"This opposition not only suffers from the "peci kondra" syndrome, but its hatred prevents it from understanding that it should sometimes vote without much debate on military agreements with the US."

This agreement is secret and not even NATO member countries know what weapons one country or another imports from the US.

The agreement is not changed in any letter, let alone its content. It is only approved or rejected, as the opposition knows very well from the time it was in government and signed similar agreements.

The agreement is mandatory for Albania to approve in order to meet the 2% of GDP requirement for defense spending. It is the generosity of the US that approved this loan to Albania and that will supply our army with American weapons.

The agreement is an unwritten condition for holding the NATO summit in Tirana next year. Holding this summit in our country is worth thousands of times more to Albania than any desire of the opposition to put obstacles in the way in the hope of coming to power.

Hiding their heads after claiming that the Constitution is being violated, without providing any argument for this, proves the opposition's behavior like a headless chicken. None of the parties that signed the agreement want an agreement that is contrary to the country's Constitution and a confrontation in the Constitutional Court as happened with any agreement when the opposition was in power.

In such cases, the only thing you can say is: "Oh God, for the sake of the opposition people, help them get out of the soup they cook and the dead ends they willingly enter every day, sometimes against the country's European integration and sometimes against military agreements with the US," Spaho writes./ CNA
