The opposition is expected to launch the war against the drug regime /

The plebiscite victory of the Socialist Party with 83 mandates, in addition to the absolute power it gave to the executive and the several months of excitement, also brought other dynamics.

With the new institutions still not fully established, the autumn election market is bringing surprises. Opposition figures are moving into leadership positions in the majority, developments that need to be analyzed beyond the noise of the moment.

In early 2025, Endrit Braimllari left the Freedom Party and the position of vice-mayor to join the Socialist Party, a move that was rewarded with the candidacy in Tirana from this political force, although he could not win the mandate because he was not on the safe list. But the next reward was not long in coming and he was elected vice-mayor of the Tirana Municipal Council.

" I had not been involved in the PL for more than a year. I chose to position myself in support of the SP, I decided long before I was part of the SP team, and I joined precisely for the opening of the party, the inclusiveness, to exercise my political passion there. I am passionate about politics and no one could stop me. They tried to do it, but I was determined on the path I would follow," Braimllari said in an interview a few months after the decision.

Braimllari was denounced by the PL as a traitor and the person who plunged the PL leader, Meta, into SPAK. A few days ago, Tedi Blushi considered him "amphibious" after he voted in favor of Veliaj's dismissal from the Municipal Council.

On June 24, the former head of the DP in Vlora, Genc Deromemaj, was appointed head of the Cadastre of this city, a move that opened up debate and was commented on both within the Democratic Party and by Sali Berisha himself.

"This person with a career in the DP, if these are common things, it is not extraordinary that people change parties like this, 10 days ago he sent me a message informing me that he will leave political activity forever. In fact, he has not had any activity, for his own reasons, I don't know, that is.

But this is his choice and I have personally said it and I repeat it again, I consider the essence of freedom to be the right of man to choose. He has made a choice, he has taken a function, he has taken a position, which a democrat would never take, but the choice is his… I am not aware of any other case. I am not aware, but his case is evident. He did not inform me that he would take a function in a place where they usually stay for 3 months, in Vlora. But it is his choice, that is all. The investment he had in the DP, how he found this high assessment from the party of crime, is his business, I do not know ”, Berisha said at the time.

One of these movements is Silvi Caka, former MP of the Socialist Movement for Integration, Freedom Party, who was today appointed to the post of Deputy Minister of Interior. Unlike Deromemaj who had a lower public profile, Caka until a few months ago was the most critical voice of the Rama government, one of the main figures of the protests in front of Tirana City Hall for 44 weeks in a row.

"Today we will see the municipality of thieves, investments have been realized at less than 30%.

Soft loans for social housing have not been opened in the country for two years. They are holding citizens hostage to give them soft loans and get their votes.

"I appeal to citizens not to give up, there is no service to provide you," Caka said in one of his statements before the Tirana Municipality.

The appointment was a surprise and brought quite a few reactions, but there is still no statement from the political force where she started her career and adhered to until a few weeks ago. The reasons for the "divorce" with the Freedom Party are not yet known, but Caka apparently joined the "party of thieves" as she called the Socialist Party.

The Socialists' four-term rule has apparently exhausted the opposition and is destroying the career opportunities they may have dreamed of in high-ranking public positions.

The 13-year opposition has left little room for idealism, and Caka and the other two have chosen pragmatism, or perhaps they think that the problems of the system can be solved by becoming an integral part of it. At a time when the hopes and chances of the minority to come to power are rapidly fading, defections are becoming a common practice.

One of the most used slogans by opposition leaders is war against the regime or battle, and as the saying goes: "in war, everything is permitted."/ CNA
