The Ambassador of Albania to the EU, Silvio Gonzato, met with the Minister of Justice, Besfort Lamallari.
Through a post on social media, the embassy says that the EU has expressed its willingness for close cooperation with the Ministry of Justice.
Ambassador Gonzato emphasized at the meeting that changes to the Albanian Criminal Code will be made to align it with European standards.
" The EU Ambassador, Silvio Gonzato, met yesterday with the Minister of Justice, Besfort Lamallari.
The European Union expresses its readiness to cooperate closely with the Ministry of Justice to further strengthen justice institutions, provide expertise and promote accountability and efficiency.
Ambassador Gonzato emphasized that Albania is expected to amend several provisions of the Criminal Code to align them with European standards and EU legislation, prioritizing the changes needed to meet the interim criteria as part of the first Chapter Group.
He stressed the importance of fully implementing the 2016 justice reform, in line with its current architecture, as well as achieving a fair balance between independence and accountability ," the EU office announced.
