The leader of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, has stated that the choice to run on the closed list in the parliamentary elections of May 11 was not at all wrong. Meta states that he has been against closed lists from the beginning and, in addition, he did not want to create any individual advantage for himself to the detriment of the United Opposition.

According to Meta, his political battle has been and remains the liberation of Albanians from the state captured by the "Renaissance".

"No, no mistake and for two very important reasons.

First, in principle, because I have always been against closed lists and it is absurd that citizens can practically only elect 1/3 of the deputies because 2/3 are predetermined.

Secondly, I did not want to create any individual advantage for myself to the detriment of the United Opposition, because if I were on the closed list, one of the main theses against the opposition would be that the coalition was formed to get Meta out of prison.

Meanwhile, my political battle has been and remains to free Albanians from the great prison where they live every day in the state captured by the "Renaissance" and the mafia in every cell.

I also aimed to motivate the other candidates on the open lists as much as possible after some dissatisfaction that arose with the closed lists.

For me, the disappointing thing is the overall result and not the fact that I did not become an MP.

"Those who were out of prison should have worked harder and better. Especially when competing with a captured state, captured media and an Electoral Code that is not favorable to the opposition," Meta said./CNA
