Criminal events in Saranda/Zhupa: State of emergency, police urgent monitoring

Democratic Party MP Ina Zhupa, in a statement to the media, focused on the recent criminal events that occurred in Saranda.

Zhupa said that 4 criminal events in just 6 days is a balance sheet of an extraordinary situation.

The MP stated that there is an urgent need to monitor the situation in Saranda and increase police attention.

"At the height of the tourist season, Saranda has turned into a city that is the scene of criminal clashes and unresolved scores, while the police seem to be on vacation. Armed or wanted persons moved freely in the city and for days criminal events have occurred where, due to the inaction or permission of the state, Saranda is not finding peace. 4 criminal events in just 6 days in Saranda, is a balance of a state of emergency and terror for the residents.

On July 17, two groups clashed with firearms in broad daylight in neighborhood number 4, in full view of vacationers. On July 19, in Ksamil, the owner of the “Euro Hotel” was raped with sharp objects, on July 20 there were gunshots in neighborhood number 4, on “Mitat Hoxha” street, where a former police officer was injured, yesterday night, July 21, a TNT explosion in neighborhood no. 3. All events in public spaces in citizens and vacationers, putting their lives at risk. A situation of panic has been created in the city for the lives of citizens, and these almost daily news about Saranda are negative for tourism and drive vacationers away from the city. I call on the Minister of Interior Hoxha and the Director of the State Police Proda to take the necessary measures for order and security. The police have a duty to prevent, control the territory, and not to count the victims and the injured after the events. "Urgent monitoring of the situation in Saranda and increased police attention are needed before innocent people become the next victims. Do not use the police to remove flower pots in open bars but to guarantee the lives of citizens ," said Zhupa./ CNA
