With letter in hand, Meta defends the opposition

The head of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, appeared today at a media conference where, with a letter in hand, he spoke about several issues and defended the opposition.

He emphasized that the parliament has been grabbed by the throat by the government and that it is blocking the draft laws of the opposition in order to annihilate it.

He also pointed out that the parliament is imposing the election of members of the Electoral Reform.

" Parliament has been taken by the throat by the Prime Minister with the sole purpose of blocking accountability and turning Parliament into a government office that passes laws to order.

The blocking of all investigative commissions, on concessions, on the hijacking of TIMS data, the McGonigal case, etc., is irrefutable evidence of the government's intention not to be accountable to Parliament.

The continuous exclusion of opposition MPs, and recently of its 23 MPs, is a tool of open aggression against the opposition so that it is annihilated in its function and the great truths of government corruption are not recognized by Albanians.

The unbridled violence of the functioning of the Parliament has reached the point where even the members of the parliamentary commissions impose on the opposition. As is the case of the Electoral Reform Commission, with the sole purpose of making a pseudo-reform that legitimizes the manipulation and theft of elections.

Even when the opposition proposes legal initiatives for the citizens, they are reviewed very late.

Blocking opposition bills, which are only in the interest of citizens, is another means of pressure on the opposition in Parliament.

Yesterday, flagrantly, only after 20 months, the proposal of the Freedom Party to reduce the price of fuel was discussed and NOT accepted by the majority.

Meanwhile, dozens of other laws that the Freedom Party and the opposition as a whole have proposed in Parliament remain unreviewed.


We are in the conditions of an open confrontation between the democratic attitude of the opposition and the regime of Edi Rama.

Edi Rama and the government want an Albania without opposition, to implement unhindered their corrupt plans for their own interests, and those of the financial, mafia groups they represent, while the opposition works for a democratic government, where accountability and transparency work towards citizens, where the rule of law works and where everyone is equal before the law, and no one enjoys the privilege of impunity, as is unfortunately happening today due to the seizure of justice by the government," said Meta. / CNA
