The ODIHR report on the April 2021 elections presented findings of vote buying and abuse and misuse of state funds.

But although two years have passed, the US ambassador in Tirana, Yuri Kim, said this evening that she is waiting for measures to be taken.

Kim stated in an interview for the Voice of America that the US is waiting for the Albanian government and the people who are responsible, including the Central Election Commission and political leaders, to take concrete steps regarding this issue.

"The US position regarding free and fair elections is very consistent and very clear. Our expectation is that a country like Albania, a member of NATO and aspiring for membership in the European Union, will do its best to ensure that the elections are held in accordance with international standards and norms. We know there is room for improvement.

We saw in the ODIHR report on the April 2021 elections that shortcomings were noted, which include vote buying. They include the abuse and misuse of state funds, which speaks of the politicization of some elements and activities of the administration. We expect that the Albanian government and those responsible, the responsible actors, including the Central Election Commission and political leaders, will take measures", the American diplomat emphasized./ CNA.al
