Mayor Erion Veliaj said that a large number of tourists have visited Tirana during the past year.
In his speech delivered during the International Tourism Convention, Veliaj said that one of the main reasons for the increase in the number of tourists was the announcement of Tirana as the European Youth Capital.
The mayor stated that the policies followed in the transport sector are the main factors in attracting tourists to Tirana.
"Tirana this year is the European City of Sports, years ago it was the European Capital of Youth. We used this opportunity to bring as many activities as possible, to produce economy and to ensure that the image of our country and region is enhanced to become attractive to other countries. Today we are in a situation where our transport policies, such as the construction of new airports, the reduction of fees at our airport, or the opening to different markets, such as the Aegean countries or Asia, have produced policies that have brought a significant number of tourists in the country that used to be the most isolated in Europe ", he said./ CNA.al
