The Democratic Party has reacted again regarding the election of the billionaire Rilindja journalist, Alfred Peza, at the head of the Albanian Radio Television.

In a press statement, DP deputy Ina Zhupa said that the election of Peza "flagrantly violates the 4 conditions of the law on incompatibility with the position".

She raised accusations that the race was predetermined by Prime Minister Edi Rama, in an illegal manner.

"A false competition with friends and subordinates, preceded the violation of the law with his appointment as Director. In Law No. 97/2013 "FOR THE AUDIOVISUAL MEDIA IN THE REPUBLIC OF ALBANIA, in article 104, which talks about the incompatibilities and conflict of interests of the General Director of RTSH, in point 1 (a) it is stated that:

A) to be a member of political parties and associations, a candidate for deputy or to have been elected as such in the past 2 legislatures...

Alfred Peza was elected deputy of the Socialist Party in the period 2013-2017, which actually corresponds to the fact that he was a deputy in one of the last two legislatures. (2013-2017; 2017-2021 are the two past legislatures)

Also, Alfred Peza is a member of the Socialist Party, he was the party's spokesperson, elected its digital secretary and in its leadership forums, which is another fact that is incompatible with the law. On 13.06.2023, we received information from AKEP that Mr. Peza is still the contact person for the Socialist Party, even after the election.

The same article establishes two other prohibitions, in its point 1 (b), where again both are violated by Alfred Peza.

b) or a person who owns part of the capital or shares of commercial companies, as well as other rights in the field of audiovisual broadcasts, advertising, content production of audiovisual broadcasts, electronic communication networks. The next subsection underlines..."or persons employed during the last year, members of the management or advisory bodies of these entities or associated with any license with these entities". Alfred Peza was the director of the Panorama media group until December 29, 2022, i.e. 6 months ago.

So 4 violations in 4 conditions
- Director of a media that should not have been during the last year.
-Owner of another media such as "alpeneës.al".
- Member of the Socialist Party, member of the Assembly, former spokesperson and digital secretary.
