Election date/ Begaj: Opinions guided by voters' interest

After closing the consultations regarding the date of the 2025 elections, President Begaj reacted on the social network "Facebook".

President Begaj has said that he is satisfied that the parliamentary political factor has been included with opinions and suggestions in this process.

"I closed the consultation process with the political and institutional factor for setting the date of the 2025 general elections.

The competence for setting the date of the elections belongs to the President of the Republic, but I am very satisfied that the entire parliamentary political factor was involved with opinions and suggestions in this process, both directly by participating in consultative meetings and indirectly, through conveying party preferences in other ways.

From the consultations I noticed that, on the whole, the opinions were guided by the highest interest of the voters and not by the petty calculations that are usually expected in such cases.

The convergence of opinions, beyond the differences in political positions, was the most significant manifestation of this consultation.

Setting the date of the elections for me is not just a constitutional obligation nor a formal legal procedure, but it is, first of all, a powerful test of cooperation, understanding and commitment of the entire political and institutional factor on behalf of the voters and for the voters, as it is a significant occasion to bring back to attention the crucial importance that elections have for the consolidation of parliamentary democracy.

The main task of political actors is to transform the spring parliamentary elections of 2025 into a success story for Albanians and Albanian democracy, where the implementation of the law, correctness and ethics in the communication of the platforms, respect for the voters and their will to expressed by vote", declared Begaj.

This Monday, Begaj held consultations with representatives of the SP and the CEC, while the DP boycotted the meeting./ CNA
