Begaj, meeting with PD-SP representatives for the election date/ Bardhi refuses

The President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, will today host a meeting of representatives of the DP and the SP to choose the date of the elections.

According to the calendar announced by the presidency, at 10:30 am, President Begaj will meet the representatives of the Democratic Party at the institution of the Head of State. Specifically, the General Secretary, Flamur Noka and the head of the group, Gazment Bardhit.

At 11:30, the representatives of the Socialist Party will meet with the President, while the consultations will end with the meeting with the chairman of the CEC, Ilirjan Celibashi.

On the other hand, the chairman of the parliamentary group Gazment Bardhi has stated earlier that he will not be present at the meeting as according to him the date of the elections has been decided and all that the President is doing is a farce.

"Personally, I refuse to be involved in a farcical process that only aims to give legitimacy to an act dictated in an unconstitutional manner by the ruling party. Setting the date of the elections is a constitutional competence of the President of the Republic and by no means an act dictated by Edi Rama and Taulant Balla. The Rama-Balla duo have already set the date of the elections and the President is only expected to sign and seal the will of the party in power. The farce of alleged consultations with political parties and even with individuals without a party, is an ugly act that deserves only to be despised", said Bardhi in an official reaction./ CNA
