This Monday, Lulzim Basha praised the work of SPAK, the institution that has sent officials, mayors, ministers and recently a former president to prison.

Basha said in a television appearance that the era when a handful of politicians escaped justice is coming to an end thanks to the commitment of new justice institutions.

"First, I want once again to highly appreciate the work of the new justice institutions and the work of SPAK to put an end to impunity, the phenomenon that also characterizes this tension between the majority of the population and a handful of politicians, where most of the population are hit, often unfairly, try the law or law enforcement even for small things, while a handful of politicians even for serious crimes, for the most serious corruption cases have managed to escape for a long accountability before the law.

This era seems to be coming to an end thanks to the commitment of SPAK, which we Euro-Atlantic democrats support without any reservations. That the role of politics in a normal country, in a country emancipated from the diseases of transition is precisely this: to stay away from justice and support in all forms and ways an independent and professional justice which is blind to the status of the defendant. Whether they are ordinary citizens or the most powerful politicians in the country, government or former government, they must be accountable to the law.
