All governments in the world suffer from complacency and narcissism, but no government has ever loved itself as much as ours.

During the years that I have followed Albanian political life, I do not remember another government that has shown such a strong tendency towards self-satisfaction and self-promotion, facade and advertising everywhere.

I can't remember any other government spending so much financial and human resources to promote its policies and "personalities" (understand ONE!). I can't remember any other government that has so carefully curated its image, so much so that it boasts of influencers, actors, singers, rappers, even prime ministers, which it brings in from across the Atlantic and which it pays for with taxpayers' money Albanians, simply for an advertisement, or to "remind us" how happy we are.

I don't remember so many journalists - advertisers, so willing, so "professional" in promoting the image of the government and the prime minister. What beautiful commercial productions! Well done!

To be fair, of course, governments everywhere in the world are prone to narcissism. It is not that politicians are alienated these days, it is that the technique of propaganda today, due to technological possibilities and the direct and personalized nature of political communication, fosters the narcissism of power.

However, analyzing the situation psychologically is shallow. Not that the personal character and insecurities of the people in power do not play their part. Undoubtedly, these factors have their weight in developments. Of course, if the rulers were not so insecure and narcissistic, if they were somehow more humble and modest and had managed to curb their narcissistic temptations, surely things would be better.

Por narcizmi që shikojmë pasqyron një problem më të thellë: demokracia jonë është e mangët, po vuan rëndë. Dhe nëse duam të kuptojmë pse qeverisja është e vetëkënaqur deri në neveri, shkaqet qëndrojnë diku tjetër: qeveria nënshtron dhe poshtëron vetë institucionet që duhet ta kontrollojnë atë.

Institucionet që duhet të sigurojnë kontrollin dhe kufizimin e qeverisë janë kthyer në shtylla dhe ndihmës të saj, në shërbëtorë të saj.

Dhe kur rezistojnë, marrin goditjet e koordinuara të një artilerie komunikimi qeveritare dhe presione të të gjitha llojeve. Në luftë janë edhe “bashkudhëtarët e vullnetshëm” qoftë nga besimi, qoftë nga egoizmi, zakonisht një kombinim i të dyjave.

Izolimi dhe heshtja e "zërave shqetësues" është një sipërmarrje e mirëkoordinuar nga qendra, me receta për diskreditimin moral dhe rraskapitjen psikologjike të njerëzve që mund të jenë pengesa ndaj pushtetit të pakontrolluar e autoritar në histori.

Kujtoni se si trajtohen zërat kritikë ndaj qeverisë, qoftë nga media, biznesi apo edhe fushat e ndryshme intelektuale.
Gjobat, mbylljet, shkatërrimin ekonomik...

Sa më shumë që qeveria zë hapësirë, aq më shumë ka nevojë për propagandë. Mekanizmat për projektimin e punës së qeverisë, ndërsa zgjerohen të shfrenuar – dhe nganjëherë në panik – mund të kufizohen me propagandën e lirë dhe qesharake, por ato ushqejnë narcizmin arrogant, antidemokratik e shqetësues të pushtetit.
