Barbie, the highest-grossing film ever for Warner Bros

Director Greta Gerwig's Barbie has surpassed The Dark Knight, distributed by Warner Bros., as the company's highest-grossing film ever in the United States.

The news comes as the Margot Robbie-starrer Barbie has grossed more than $537 million in the United States less than a month after opening in theaters on July 21.

The Academy Award-winning film The Dark Knight, released on the same weekend in July 2008, earned $536 million from US theaters.

But, this is not the only record that has been broken by Barbie.

This film has even surpassed the success of the 2019 Captain Marvel film.

Barbie, which also stars Ryan Gosling, has earned more than $1 billion at the box office worldwide, breaking all records for films directed by women.

Although some conservatives, including Senator Ted Cruz and commentator Ben Shapiro, have criticized what they called the film's discriminatory message, that has not stopped its success, which is expected to continue for some time.

Actress Margot Robbie, who is also a producer of the film, is expected to earn about $50 million from the film, thanks to ticket sales and additional benefits from the company that distributes it./ REL
