Picasso's ceramic works exceed expectations at Geneva auction

Seven unique ceramic plates and bowls painted by the famous Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, created between 1947 and 1964, have been sold in Geneva, Switzerland, for a total of 272,000 Swiss francs - almost 290,000 euros.

The Piguet agency of Geneva in Switzerland, which conducted the sale, noted in a press release that the estimated price for the lots was 145,000 Swiss francs (154,000 euros), making the auction a surprising success.

In the ceramic medium, the record for a work by Picasso is £980,275 (€1.149 million) for the artist's 1950 vase prototype, "Grand vase aux femmes voilées" at Christie's auction in London in 2013.

Made between 1947 and 1963 at the Madoura workshop in Vallauris, on the southeastern French coast, the ceramic artworks are being exhibited for the first time to the general public. /CNA
