Dritan Rexhepi was released from the Ecuadorian justice system, despite having six years left to complete his sentence and having two extradition requests.

Albanian drug trafficker Dritan Rexhepi was captured in Turkey, two years after he escaped from Ecuador due to failures in the justice and prison systems.

Dubbed the "Tsar of Cocaine", Dritan Rexhepi had to serve 6 years in prison after being convicted of drug trafficking when prison judge Diego Poma granted him parole for health reasons.

The magistrate issued the release slip and in return ordered him to be placed on an electronic handcuff, make periodic appearances and be banned from leaving the country.

But the drug lord escaped. Fernando Villavicencio, as chairman of the Supervisory Committee of the Assembly, denounced the judge.

He emphasized that for months the Albanian used fraudulent schemes through medical reports, justifying his absence as he was sentenced to appear and had to sign before the authorities.

He did not use the electronic handcuffs. Thus, the King of Cocaine avoided immigration checks and at least two extradition requests from Italy and Albania, which the judge ignored. Diego Poma has a history of rulings in favor of drug convicts.

His name was mentioned again in September, when he gave a prison transfer to the leader of Los Choneros, Adolfo Macías alias Fito.
