Albanian drug organization destroyed in Italy, 9 arrested in flash operation

An Albanian-based criminal organization dedicated to drug trafficking has been dismantled by the police of Reggio Emilia in Italy. Italian media report that the police have executed a detention order issued by the preliminary investigation judge at the Court of Bologna, at the request of the Antimafia District Directorate, against nine people under investigation for the crime of criminal conspiracy with the aim of drug trafficking.

Arrests and checks are taking place in the provinces of Reggio Emilia, Bergamo, Brescia and Savona, as well as in France, Spain and Albania.

The operation, called "STURL ONE", represents a continuation of previous investigative activities, conventionally called TREXIT 2019 and BLACK MAMBA, which had already led to the execution of a total of 35 restrictive measures in January 2021 and September 2022.

The TREXIT 2019 investigation identified the existence and operation of three criminal organizations in the province of Reggio Emilia, one of which was made up of individuals of Maghreb origin, known as the "Rubiera group", dedicated to the retail distribution of cocaine.

In-depth investigations also revealed the functioning of two other criminal organizations, composed of individuals of Albanian nationality, who over time had alternated in procuring large quantities of cocaine destined for the North African group.

One of these organizations was led by an Albanian individual residing in Italy, but who frequently traveled abroad and to his country of origin, who acted as the organization's contact for cocaine supply in the Emilia-Romagna region starting in 2018. /CNA
