A Europol mega-operation, spanning several countries, has hit a cocaine trafficking network in Europe.

Specifically, the coded police operation "Desert Light" has been extended to Spain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates.

As a result, Europol in cooperation with the authorities of each country mentioned above, have arrested 49 people.

According to Spanish police, the leader of the organization is a "British citizen" who fled his former base on the Costa del Sol to hide in Dubai, where he has since been handcuffed.

The "drug lord", with the arrested persons, had formed what was known as a "super cartel", which controlled about a third of the cocaine trade in Europe. 

Europol announces that the scale of cocaine import into Europe under the control and command of the suspects was massive and over 30 tons of drugs were seized by law enforcement during the investigations.

6 of the arrested persons were hiding in Dubai, where they were also arrested. Meanwhile, the names of the 49 members of the cartel have not yet been announced./ BA - CNA.al
