Zelensky vows: We will use Tomahawk missiles only against Russian military targets

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said his country will use long-range Tomahawk missiles only against Russian military targets, after the Kremlin expressed alarm over Washington's possible plan to provide the missiles to Kiev.

Last Monday, Trump said he would agree to give Kiev Tomahawk missiles only if he knew what it planned to do with them. He added, without giving further details, that he had made a decision on the matter.

Given that their range is 2,500 km or 1,550 miles, Ukraine could use the weapons to strike deep inside Russia.

In comments published on Sunday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the topic was extremely worrying for Russia. Peskov said Moscow should bear in mind that some versions of the missile are capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

The Kremlin spokesman's comments came as French President Emmanuel Macron condemned recent Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. /CNA
