JD Vance confirms Trump's meeting with Israeli hostages

US Vice President JD Vance has confirmed that Donald Trump will travel to the Middle East on Sunday to meet with Israeli hostages who will be released under the first phase of the Israel-Hamas peace deal.

JD Vance declared that the Middle East was now on the verge of a lasting peace.

"We are very confident that the hostages will be released and that the president is traveling to the Middle East, most likely tonight, to meet and greet them in person," Vance told CBS.

Vance called the first step in implementing the 20-point peace agreement a big day for the families of the hostages, but also a big day for the entire world.

He said the agreement was a very difficult task and Trump had pursued very non-traditional diplomacy.

"We are now on the verge of a lasting peace in the Middle East," Vance added.

The Vice President said that the second phase of the deal, which includes Hamas's acceptance to hand over its weapons and administration of Gaza to a Palestinian body of independent technocrats, will require continued influence and pressure from the President of the United States.

Further, JD Vance stated that inevitably there will be things that the parties will not agree on.

"Inevitably, there will be conflicts here. There will be things that people in Gaza will disagree with Israel about, and Israelis will disagree with the Gulf Arab states," Vance said./CNA , translated by "The Guardian"
