US military finds several bodies after plane crash in Japan
The Osprey, used by the US Marines, Air Force and Navy, first flew in 1989

The US military said on Monday it had recovered five bodies after one of its planes crashed off the southern coast of Japan last week, DW reports. 

"Dive teams were able to confirm five additional crew members from the eight-member team that were on board," Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) said in a statement.

Japanese rescue teams are helping with recovery operations. 

Last week just hours after the crash, the remains of one of the other crew members were also found by Japanese responders, with that person confirmed dead. 

Japanese authorities had initially said eight people were on board the plane, but they revised the figure later on the day of the crash to six. 

The CV-22 Osprey military aircraft had taken off from US Marine Corps Station Iwakumi in southern Japan and was heading further south to Kadena Air Base in Okinawa./ CNA
