Ukraine reports soldiers killed by its special forces

An unspecified number of Ukrainian special forces soldiers have been killed during an operation in the occupied part of the southern Ukrainian region of Kherson, the Special Operations Forces of the Ukrainian Army said.

Ukrainian broadcaster Suspilne reported that a group of Ukrainian troops were killed while trying to break through to Tendriv, in the northern Black Sea, near the coast of occupied Kherson.

According to the Ukrainian Army, the soldiers belonged to the 73rd Marine Center. This group is part of the special intelligence of the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces.

Meanwhile, Russian media quoted officials installed by Russia in Ukraine as saying that Russian forces "destroyed a group of Ukrainian saboteurs who were trying to land in Tendriv".

Russia launched its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. On February 25, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed since the invasion began. This was the first time that Ukraine officially spoke about the total number of soldiers killed.

The Ukrainian president claimed that Russian losses were 180,000 soldiers killed and 500,000 wounded, claims that could not be independently confirmed.
