The European Union's special envoy for dialogue, Miroslav Lajçak, said late Wednesday that he met with Kosovo's deputy prime minister, Besnik Bislim, to discuss preparations for a high-level dialogue meeting between Pristina and Belgrade next week.

"We had a long and substantive discussion to prepare for the high-level dialogue meeting next week," Lajcak wrote on X, the social network formerly known as Twitter.

He emphasized that their main focus at the September 6 meeting in Brussels was "how to advance in the normalization of relations".

On August 31, the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Policy and Security, Josep Borrell, said that the next meeting between the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the President of Serbia, Aleksandër Vucic, will take place on September 14.

Kurti and Vucic met for the last time on May 2 - nine days after extraordinary elections in northern Kosovo, which were boycotted by the local Serbian population. Since then, there have been a series of tensions and crises between the two countries.

On August 30, the EU reiterated the call for both to create a climate for continued dialogue.

The two countries, under the mediation of the European Union, have been in talks for the normalization of relations since 2011. Although they have reached dozens of agreements in various fields, the implementation of most of them has stalled./ REL
