Dodik vows/ I will stop Christian Schmidt from entering Republika Srpska

The president of the Republika Srpska entity, Milorad Dodik, said on Wednesday that he will deny entry to the Serbian entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the high representative of the International Community in Bosnia, Christian Schmidt.

His announcement comes shortly after prosecutors sued Dodik for passing laws that would allow the Bosnian Serb entity – known as the Republika Srpska – to override or ignore decisions by Bosnia's high representative and the Constitutional Court.

"We don't respect Schmidt", Dodik told the media in Banja Llukë, the capital of Republika Srpska.

"Since this morning, we are working out a decree on how to turn him back, and how to arrest him if he comes here," added Dodik.

Schmidt is tasked with overseeing the civilian aspects of the Dayton Accords, which ended Bosnia's bloody war in the 1990s.

As the international representative, Schmidt has great power, including the ability to dismiss appointed officials and make laws.

Dodik, however, has refused to recognize Schmid's authority since this post lost the support of the United Nations thanks to an intervention by Russia and Beijing.

The latest decision comes after months of heightened tensions in the Balkan country, after Dodik signed the controversial legislation this summer.
