Trump announces decision: We will increase tariffs on EU vehicles to 25%

US President Donald Trump has announced new tariffs on the European Union. In a reaction on Truth Social, Trump announced that he will increase tariffs to 25% on cars and trucks entering the United States.

He states that this measure was taken because the European Union is not adhering to the Trade Agreement agreed with the US. 

“I am pleased to announce that, based on the fact that the European Union is not fully complying with our agreed upon Trade Agreement, next week I will be increasing the tariffs imposed on the European Union on cars and trucks entering the United States. The tariff will increase to 25%. It is fully understood and agreed that, if they produce cars and trucks in U.S. factories, there will be no tariff. Many car and truck factories are currently under construction, with over $100 billion invested, a record in the history of car and truck manufacturing. These factories, staffed by American workers, will be opening soon - There has never been anything like what is happening in America today ,” Trump’s post said.

Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen agreed to the trade deal last July. Both the US and the EU confirmed their commitment to maintaining the trade framework, known as the Turnberry Agreement. /CNA
