Knife attack at a Washington school / 6 people injured, including the suspected

Six people have been injured in a stabbing attack at a school in the US state of Washington after a fight.

The Tacoma Fire Department said the injured, five school students and a security guard, were in stable condition.

Police said they arrested the suspected perpetrator, a student at Foss Middle School, who was also injured in the incident.

The suspect faces five counts of first-degree assault, said Shelbie Boyd, a spokeswoman for the Tacoma Police Department. Local authorities have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident and the motive for the attack.

Foss Middle School will remain closed Friday following the incident, according to a notice on the school's website. It will reopen Monday, May 4, with counselors on site to support staff and students. /CNA
