Zelensky expected to meet with European leaders on Ukraine in Paris on Thursday

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet with European leaders on Thursday in Paris, foreign media said, amid an international push to broker an end to Russia's three-and-a-half-year occupation.

European media emphasize that the main topic of the Paris talks will be security guarantees for Ukraine and the promotion of diplomacy, because the Russians are once again withdrawing from efforts to end the war.

The issue of Western-backed security guarantees for Ukraine if a ceasefire takes effect has dominated the diplomatic storm surrounding Ukraine in recent weeks.

Kiev wants such guarantees to deter any future Russian attack. A European peacekeeping force has been publicly floated among leaders as a possible security arrangement for when the conflict ends.

Trump has hinted that the United States could support any European peacekeeping plan, but will not deploy American soldiers in Ukraine. /CNA
