Thailand is planning to give away 200,000 free flights to tourists

Thailand is planning to give away free domestic flights to 200,000 international visitors over the next three months.

The campaign, called "Buy International Flights, Get Free Domestic Flights in Thailand," will allow eligible foreign tourists to claim a free round-trip flight within the country when booking international flights directly through airlines or travel agencies.

Backed by the country’s tourism ministry, the scheme will run from September to November, subject to cabinet approval. The government will subsidise up to 1,750 THB (€40) for a round-trip ticket or 3,500 THB (€80) for a round-trip ticket. Each ticket will also come with 20kg of checked baggage.

The goal is to push travelers beyond the perennial favorites like Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai and toward hidden provinces rich in temples, exciting culinary traditions and less-visited beaches and islands. /CNA
