Strong storms in Croatia/ 7 injured and extensive material damage

A powerful storm swept across parts of Croatia's western coast, injuring seven people and causing extensive damage in the Istria region. Winds reached over 100 kilometers per hour and more than 2,000 lightning strikes were recorded in just one hour.

Emergency crews worked throughout the night, with over 100 calls reported in 24 hours.

Footage shows firefighters clearing fallen trees and damaged vehicles as cleanup operations continue.

The hardest-hit town was Rovinj, where trees were downed, roads were blocked and dozens of yachts were stranded. The situation in Rovinj is particularly dangerous, authorities say, so residents have been told to stay indoors.

"We have injuries, but at this point we still don't know the number. The situation is such that I have to say there is a lot of damage. All available services are on the ground, from drainage, civil protection, firefighters and we will probably ask for help from other services outside Rovinj. The damage is extraordinary. I have only been mayor for about fifteen days, but there have been similar situations in Rovinj before, and even worse than this. But this storm was really quite strong," said Rovinj Mayor Emil Nimcevic. /CNA
