Decision in Italy/ High school students will no longer have mobile phones at

Italian Education Minister Giuseppe Valditara announced that starting next school year, the use of mobile phones will be banned in all secondary schools in the country.

The same ban already applies to students in secondary and primary schools in Italy.

Specifically, the relevant decision is taken with the aim of protecting the health of students, considering that, based on scientific data, the use of mobile phones increasingly has negative effects on the performance of adolescents and creates problems in their ability to concentrate, in their interpersonal relationships and frequent sleep disruptions.

Students with special needs and those enrolled in technology-oriented high schools will be exempt from this measure.

It is also expected that the use of so-called "electronic whiteboards", tablets and computers will continue to be allowed in order to support new teaching methods./CNA
