Slovenia holds presidential elections

Citizens in Slovenia vote in a presidential election on October 23, in which three main candidates are competing, but it is unclear who will be the winner.

Polls have suggested that neither candidate will win more than 50 percent of the vote to win the election in the first round. This means that the two candidates who will receive the most votes will face each other in the runoff round, which will be held next month.

The current president, Borut Pahor, has served two full five-year terms and cannot run for a third term. During the two mandates, Pahor has tried to be a bridge between divisions in the political scene of Slovenia, a country that is still a source of political tensions.

Pahor is often referred to by the public as the 'president of Instagram', due to his use of social networks.

The polls for the presidential elections will close at 19:00 and the first results are expected two hours later./REL
