White House: Humanitarian corridor for Gaza, the right thing to do

The White House echoed calls for humanitarian aid and a corridor out of Gaza as Israel ramps up its military response to a weekend attack by Palestinian Hamas militants. On Thursday, the top American diplomat arrived in the region for a lightning round of diplomatic talks and demonstrated solidarity with Israel.

Aid officials say humanitarian needs are great and analysts say there is no easy solution to the growing concerns.

" We are talking with Israeli officials about the continued need for humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people, who are also victims ," ??said John Kirby, spokesman for the National Security Council.

" It's the right thing to do ," he added, in response to VOA's question about what the White House thought about the rumors of creating a humanitarian corridor.

White House officials said this week that they are in talks with Egypt about a possible humanitarian corridor. There are only two official exit points from the Gaza Strip.
